It is a yellow, orthorhombic crystal powder. As the powder is heated, it changes color from lighter to darker. It has a specific gravity of 7.16 grams per cm3, a melting point of 1473degC, whereas the boiling point at 1750degC is 17.50degC. The temperature at which it melts is 850degC. It becomes subliminal and green. It is stable in air and insoluble with water and other inorganic acids, except hydrofluoric, and can slowly dissolve in ammonia solution and concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.

Tungsten(VII) oxide can be found in nature as hydrates. This includes minerals like tungstite W3*2H2O, hydrotungstite and meymacite W3*2H2O (of the exact same composition as meymacite but sometimes referred to as H2WO4). These secondary tungsten mineral minerals can only be found as rare or very scarce.
